Sounds on the battlefields fell away to almost nothing.
After recent territorial gains and losses, it was as if
the opposing forces had all paused simultaneously to
draw their breath.
Then, from somewhere far out to sea, came the sound of
distant rolling thunder. Somehow they all knew that it
was the report of the 13.5" guns of HMS Royal Sovereign,
signalling the end of Winter, and the start of
offensives elsewhere in Europe.
Rumour had it that the Mediterranean fleet was readying
for sail following a refit in Liverpool. The South
Essex Regiment had mustered at the Royal Dockyard in
Chatham ready for embarkation to the continent.
All throughout Europe, the neutral territories had been
occupied by one or other of the so-called Great European
Powers. Of course, there were none so great as Britain.
Or so they hoped.
The neutral territories had all fallen except for Tunisia,
and reports said the French were massing to make landfall
there early this year. With no more neutral ground to be
easily taken, the true conflict could not be far off.
Soon it would be their turn. It seemed as though
collectively they drew in a deep breath, and as one they
hunkered down slightly in their defensive positions and
prepared for a possible assault...

I think Jim summed it up well...
"Following the implemention of these moves, Austria decided to throw in the towel. This
was probably influenced by France and England discussing tactics right in front of him."
Sometimes the best Diplomacy is the most obvious Diplomacy. What more can I add! :-)
