The autopsy finally finishes about half ten that night. Yuki retires straight to bed as she's pretty exhausted after a day of thinking on her feet. Anthony asks if I'll take one of the watches overnight, as they're a few people short following the earlier extraction attempt. I tell him that I've got to get some sleep, but I'll take a turn watching the cameras for the second watch.

So after grabbing a few hours sleep on Yuki's couch, I get up about 1ish for the second watch. I sit there a while with nothing happening until just after 2:30 in the morning, when the camera monitoring the path near where Janet was found is activated.

A hunched figure shambles quickly through the shot before disappearing into the jungle. I call Anthony on the radio as he's running the second watch and he co-ordinates with Shen, John and Steven, who are the other 'roving reporters' for the watch, while they converge on the camera's location.

They track the path the figure took through the jungle for some time before loosing the trail and heading back for the path. Meanwhile I work on getting a decent frame of video of the figure. It looks like some distorted human/chimp hybrid, with its large, muscular upper body looking out of place one its comparatively small and weak lower torso and legs.

Once I've got a reasonably clear image, I send it up to Sheila asking if she or anyone she knows recognises it. Sheila's on a sleep cycle so won't get back to us for at least a few hours. I watch morning's first light appear on each of the monitors in front of me, having not seen anything else interesting all night. My watch done, I head off for breakfast to hear whether Paul's story of his heroics has grown any more in all his repeated tellings...
