The Life History of Lance Kouglehefer
Lance was born in the town of Talabhiem. His parents live in the lower class area of
the city. His father (Johan) owned a small farm and his mother (Helga) was a young
attractive homemaker. During his early childhood Lance does not remember much
except of the great feeling of affection that came from his parents.
By the time he had reached his late infant years the land that his father farmed had become infertile. As the months went by the money that his father had tried to save to get his son what little education they could afford had to be spent on paying for food and local taxes. Then came the bad year Johan could not pay the spring taxes and the city watch came to collect his father and take him to a labour camp. Mother in desperation and finding her self-unable to support her child decided to enter a life of prostitution to attain the much-needed money to feed her family and to get her husband out of the camp.
After a long hard six months Johan returned home but was a shadow of the man he once was. Now weak and feeble he was unable to work the farm. Lance tried as best as he could but he was not man enough to farm the land. So once again the taxes mounted and the city watch came to the house to take his father in. This time as a second offender he was placed in prison. Helga in desperation did what by now she knew best.
A few months passed and Helga got sick, very sick. A family friend knew a little medicine and looked at Helga. The friend could only come to one conclusion that Helga had been struck down for the sins that she had committed against the Gods. Lance prayed as much as he could for the Gods to take pity on their position and to be lenient on his mother for the sins she had committed. If it was the Gods then they did not listen or did not care for the predicament that his family was in.
It was an early winter's morning lance rushed in to see Helga, but to his horror his mother had passed away in the night. He held her cold stiff corpse as he yelled into the sky "WHY? OH GODS WHY?". With his father in jail he had to arrange for his mother's funeral. The family didn't have enough money for a graveyard plot so his mother was buried on the farm back home.
After the pain of his mothers passing eased, he renounced his following of Sigmar and cursed him for not listening. He now carries a pendant of his mother's that he believes will allow him to be reunited with her when he passes beyond.
A short while after Helga's passing the farm defaulted to the city treasurers because the taxes could not be paid. His mother's grave was exhumed and the body was destroyed. Lance was outraged at the callous way in which the authority had dealt with his mother's remains. He swore in the city house to take revenge on all of those present at the time of the desecration. To this end he has so far only found and dealt some justice to one member to the group present. The attack was very violent and swift leaving the man scared for life. Needing to vanish from the public eye he took to the back streets and found a new level of hell that seemed to soothe his pain and gave him new direction to hurt the people that had hurt him the most. He now wanders the streets looking for the opportune moment to strike and take from those who have taken so much from him.
